Iterism

The Path Towards All Answers

by Julian Vulpius

The BookDialoguesActivismGuidesChallenges

The purpose of this book, completely free to read, is to improve the world by addressing a critical gap left by existing philosophies.

It is written for people who would never pick up a philosophy book, by someone who never did either.

I invite you to approach it like an ongoing conversation with a friend, a modular worldview where you are free to select and adapt the insights that serve you best.

A path to sharpen clarity in all aspects of your life. It doesn't demand you join a faction; it just asks you to grab the tools you need.

It enables you to live happier by offering a unique approach that scales from solving internal struggles like poor sleep and social anxiety, to untangling politics and shaping the environment.

By tackling both surface-level symptoms and their roots, it aims to reduce unnecessary frustration and the time needed to find workable solutions, helping you refine how you view yourself and your environment.

Synergy of Synthesis

Most efforts to improve the world fight the fires: wars and misinformation, exploitative markets and wages that never kept pace with rent, political gridlock and polarization, crumbling public infrastructure, and the burnout, loneliness and health issues that seem to spread.

Far fewer tend to the load-bearing pillars underneath, the human capabilities that let people, and hence societies, notice their own weaknesses and fix them: credibility and anti-hypocrisy, productive confrontation and communication, clarity and precision, and agency and self-reflection.

What ties them together is an original framework, built from my own ideas, so that what you learn in one area of life keeps working in the next.

Along the way, the book develops its own tools to help with the process and keep it pragmatic.

If some of the ideas here feel familiar, that is by design. I initially developed many of these concepts on my own, only to later discover that other people had reached similar or complementary conclusions.

This was a welcome realization. It meant that some ideas were no longer just my own theories, but concepts tested or even proven by others.

After all, by taking my own ideas, exploring what works, seeing where approaches or details differ, and building upon or adjusting them, I follow the path that often leads toward progress.

While there are original insights already here and still to come, the important aspect of this collection is presenting how these ideas interconnect.

It serves as a unified compendium and a good place to start. Gathering these concepts in one place best demonstrates how they function together, so long as we avoid getting bogged down in details that have already been extensively covered.

Life’s challenges rarely happen in isolation, and neither should their solutions. Therefore, it becomes so valuable to reveal why accounting for every piece matters.

Philosophy of Iterism [Iterismus]

Iterism [Iterismus] draws its name from the intersection of the Latin noun iter (a journey, path, or way) and verb itero (to repeat, renew, or iterate).

Iterism is a philosophical approach that emphasizes continuous questioning, persistent refinement, and an intuitive yet systematic updating of beliefs based on what we deem the most reliable.

The point of this philosophy is practical: to equip everyone to improve their lives, no matter what values they hold or destinations they seek.

One of its core tenets is the rejection of universal moral absolutes, maintaining that the scope of moral authority cannot extend beyond a personal view; hence, one can only hold such authority over oneself.

Its core elements are summarized in Iterism at Its Core.

(Note: This is just a brief summary. A detailed explanation will follow in the chapter Iterism, to be released soon.)

Iterism at Its Core
Aim
living better than yesterday, measured both against who we were and against a realistically ideal version of ourselves and our surroundings.
Loop
question premises, outer and inner, act without waiting for certainty, observe, refine.
Conviction
principles over rules, earned through that loop and open to being lost.
Standard
consistency, checked by anti-hypocrisy: judging others, and ourselves, only by standards we would accept if we stood in their position.
Accountability
clear consequences with their reasons attached, tempered by grace for others as much as for our past selves.
Stance
realistic optimism.
Tools
productive confrontation, precise language, handling weaknesses and missteps.
Grounding
self-interest, which makes honesty, cooperation, openness, shared capability and mutual growth pay off, since we tend to grow further together than alone.
Responsibility
agency over our own outcomes, scaled to our reach yet never shrunk by being shared, tested by the right to complain, since what we tolerate and reward is what gets supplied.

(Note: This is only a brief reference. Each point will be expanded upon in the chapter Iterism, to be released soon.)

About this Website

I originally wrote over 500 pages and extensive notes that I planned to integrate into this book. However, after mapping out almost everything I wanted to include, I realized the journey of creation had refined my own view and partly the philosophy itself.

Since knowing the full scope makes structuring the work much easier, and my writing capability had grown, I decided it would be far better to start anew.

I will release the most polished chapters here, potentially expanding on them indefinitely. I am trying to prioritize what I deem most vital alongside its necessary foundation.

Establishing this groundwork early means I won't have to reiterate premises or over-explain nuances. The central arguments and the core that defines the philosophy will be finished before the end of 2026 [Part 1 completion].

Support & Motivation

For now, the best way to support me is simply to promote this website. You are welcome to share and distribute this work freely, though I would greatly appreciate it if you mention and link back to this site as your reference.

Because this is heavy, philosophical work, I deeply appreciate anyone who can help "translate" these concepts for a broader audience. That might mean breaking them down into social media posts and videos, or simply bringing them up in everyday conversations to make the material more digestible.

Working in IT (and aiming to hold a Master's in Medical Engineering by the end of 2027), I am currently financially stable. I would only consider ways of funding if I were to transition into politics or philosophy as a full- or half-time endeavor, which requires building public demand and awareness first.

Why I am doing this: My goal was never to go into politics or even philosophy; my actual dream is to write fantasy novels. Still, I find it impossible to sit back and create fiction while being surrounded by current and foreseeable misery. Beyond trying to avoid hypocrisy, I have to help fix this roadblock first.

For a more detailed explanation of my motivation (and why I don't just step into party politics), check out the first section on the Activism page.

Community & Feedback

Please feel free to ask questions or share any feedback on my work. Write me an email, on Instagram or post it on Reddit. This way, you can help me refine and improve the work, while taking part in shaping the book and, by extension, parts of the philosophy.

I am also always open to engaging in direct dialogue via Discord or Zoom (preferably with webcam).
